In 2011, GCI opened its first street-side operation, Sweet Georgia’s Juke Joint, in the iconic 200 Peachtree building in the heart of downtown Atlanta. With the addition of live entertainment, the restaurant delivers an experience deeply rooted in a culture unique to the South, where the marriage between food and music transports guests back to the time of the rural juke joints, where dining out was more than a meal. It is that experience, the “eatertainment,” as we like to call it, which pays tribute to a by-gone era – and where the juke joints, honky-tonks and cantinas of the past meet the present day. The restaurant has become an Atlanta favorite, having been named as one of the Best Bets for Fried Chicken by Zagat, and its award-winning shrimp & grits were chosen by JEZEBEL magazine as one of the city’s top 111 must-try tastes. JEZEBEL also mentioned it among Atlanta’s best entertainment venues. Its extensive menu also includes succulent, in-house smoked hickory barbeque ribs; a Southern starter with fried green tomatoes, crispy Vidalia onions and fried okra topped with herb goat cheese and red pepper aioli; a selection of decadent desserts, including apple cinnamon bread pudding and peach cobbler; and moonshine-based cocktails, with names like the Dance Floor (cat daddy moonshine, grapes and sugar cane), Southern HospitalitTEA (five flavors of moonshine, fresh lemon juice and cola) and Oh Honey (gin, honey, grapefruit, soda and rosemary), as a throwback to the concoctions typical of legendary juke joints. The restaurant’s modern and stylish décor features exposed brick, with metal and walnut wood accents, a nostalgic wall of period photos, historic artifacts and a soaring 18-foot custom mural designed by local artist Stacy Brown that hangs in the main dining room. After a sumptuous meal, diners can make their way to the dance floor for a serving of soulful sounds performed nightly by a live band. Back To Restaurants
